Locations

Due to the time zone considerations inherent in this role, the position will be based in one of our European locations. This will enable optimal overlap with the various time zones of our locations, thereby ensuring efficient communication and collaboration across the team.

Role: Senior Engineering Manager

The Opportunity

Join our innovative team at Tempest as a strong engineering leader, steering the course for one of our largest mobile teams.

Responsibilities

Lead the Development, Prioritisation and Maintenance of Applications:

You will play a key role in prioritising, developing, and improving our main iOS and Android apps. Also, manage the supporting infrastructure to ensure a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Comprehensive Management of Development Lifecycle:

You will need strong management skills to oversee the entire development lifecycle of our applications, from concept and design through build and testing to deployment and ongoing monitoring and updates post-launch. Your role is crucial in ensuring smooth progress and delivering high-quality applications.

Balanced Leadership and Technical Involvement:

Your primary responsibility in this role is leadership, which will consume roughly 90% of your time. However, there will be occasions where a hands-on approach is necessary, such as when conducting code reviews, troubleshooting issues, or making architectural decisions. This hands-on involvement, while occupying around 10% of your time, is critical for ensuring that the technical aspects of our projects are in alignment with our standards and objectives.

In order to sustain our balanced and productive development environment,  you must possess a robust combination of leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of the technical intricacies of mobile development. This unique blend allows you to guide and motivate your team effectively while also ensuring that the technical aspects of our projects are executed with precision and proficiency. Your adeptness in maintaining this equilibrium is vital for fostering an environment where both innovation and operational excellence thrive.

To be successful in this role, you must bring the following qualifications:

  • A demonstrated track record in mobile development, ideally with over 3 years of experience, including specialized experience in iOS and Android native development.
  • A background and track record of successfully leading engineering teams at scale with more than 4 years experience.
  • A solid understanding of contemporary mobile development practices, including code maintenance and task management.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
  • A proficiency in leading teams that encompass various skill sets and levels.
